Galveston

over memorial day weekend we decided to take a much needed mini-trip for some family time.  cody has been so swamped at work, that we haven't really seen him much the past few weeks, so it was nice for him to have a break and to be able to spend time just the three of us.

we stayed about 15 minutes outside of galveston, so the first afternoon we just headed over to the bay for a few hours.  it was really fun, you just pull your car up on the sand and claim your spot.  mae took off straight for the water, we had to catch her just to put sunscreen on her.

we spent most of our time in the water, she's our little fishy!
she's saying so many words now, and she had a blast pointing out all the boats, birds, and kites that she saw.

i had to zoom in on her face in this picture...she is just SO happy whenever we go in the water!
the next day we headed into galveston to the beach.  and i've been to a lot of different beaches in my lifetime, and i have never in my life experienced as much seaweed as i did in galveston.  there are these huge hills when you pull into the parking lot, and when i got closer i realized they were hills of seaweed that the bulldoze from the beach.  then when you get down to the beach, there was like 7 feet of seaweed before you got to the water.  it was pretty gross.  mae was not a fan of the seaweed.  but after we got her past the worst of it she of course had a blast.

mae experienced her first happy meal on the beach.  she ate the whole hamburger and most of the fries and apple slices...and some of my chicken nuggets.  girlfriend can eat.
that afternoon we went to pleasure pier, it's like a mini-amusement park on this huge pier.  it was a lot of fun.

mae probably had the most fun playing under the picnic tables.

we took her on a carousel ride, she was so excited.  when the ride started she just started laughing and squealing with delight.  it was so much fun to go on the ride with her.
of course one ride was not enough...she had a mini breakdown when we got off, so daddy took her for another spin.

it was so fun to have time together.  vacations are totally different with kids, but so worth it when you see how excited they get.
