everyday adventures

mae is quite the character.  at the end of the day, i tell cody all of the funny/ridiculous/maddening things she does throughout the day, and we always have a good laugh.

this week, i decided mae needed to get outside, so we went to the park for a little bit.  this park has a creek by it, with a little "bridge" (it's like a foot above the water) that we always go to and throw rocks off of into the creek.  well, when we get there, we always talk about not getting too close to the edge blah blah.  i was getting izzy's pacifier and right as i look up, mae takes one step too many and lands in the water.  it's not deep at all, maybe up to her knees.  but seriously, scared her like crazy.  then as she's trying to get out, she slips and falls again.  i can't carry her because i have a 2 month old.  so i have to half drag half carry my screaming 2 year old past about 20 moms and all the way to the car.  once we get to the car she finally calms down.  she asks if we can go swing...um no my dear we cannot. then i strip her down to her diaper and sit her in her car seat.  she thought this was quite exciting.  all the way home "mommy i in my diaper in the seat car!"  for the rest of the day "mommy i falled off the bridge".

her hair is crazy curly.  usually it's a rats nest in the morning.  but every once in a while it actually looks good without having to mess with it.

she still adores her sister.  and is always saying "izzy jo is just a cutie"

munchkin number 2 is growing so fast!  she might not be very chubby, but she is long and lean like her daddy. she seriously has the longest arm span i have ever seen on a baby...and some scrawny legs.  fingers crossed she's athletic.  she's smiling and finding her voice.  such a sweetie.

"i yuv izzy so much mama"

100 (and 1) posts!

i didn't even realize my last post was my 100th.  i guess i was too busy complaining about being a mom...my bad.

we're getting into a groove around here.  i finally feel like i'm getting somewhat of a handle on things.  i feel like a can keep both munchkins alive simultaneously.  yay for me.

i just love how much mae adores her sister.  first thing in the morning "where izzy jo mama?", she always wants to hold her and sing to her.  and i'm glad i'm documenting that there was a time in their lives that they loved each other...i can use it as evidence later in life.

it's starting to warm up around these parts.  i love love it.  we've had some awesome days and beautiful evenings.  i'm soaking it all in before the beast of summer gets here.  anyways, we're outside as much as possible.  and since we're headed to the beach in a few weeks, i got a new bathing suit for mae.  we of course had to put it on when we got home.  and it never came off.  we ate dinner in it, and had a meltdown when i had to wash it because she spilled on it.

got an action shot of this girl running...i love the way her hair is bouncing.  when i think of her, this is what i picture...a cute little girl running around with big curls bouncing.

she wanted to go to the pool, of course it's not open yet.  so  we compromised with a bucket of water...i need to get her a kiddie pool or something.

izzy had a rough couple of days last week.  shots :(  and was a fuss bucket.  she was 24in 12.5lbs at her 2 month appointment.  she has some seriously long arms and some scrawny toothpicks for legs.  definitely not as solid was mae is/was.  but, she's starting to get some meat on her!

i like this picture...this is pretty much what we experienced around here for a few weeks if we ever dared to put her down.  she's getting over it...for the most part.

proof that she can be happy while not being held!  she's starting to smile and coo, love this stage.

easter

the end of march and beginning of april bring the bluebells in austin.  they are all over the place.  it is so beautiful.  and i've noticed they are usually in random places, like huge fields.  on our weekly trip to the library last week, there were a bunch in the field next to the library.  mae and i ventured over to get a few pictures.

easter was so much fun this year.  we went down to houston to spend the day with family.  we had an egg hunt for the kids, ate delicious food, and got to spend time with some of our favorite people.

i know i've said this before, but mae is that kid in the family that won't smile.  i must have taken 20 pictures of these kids lined up, and in every single one she looked like this.
she's become so shy around other people.  when we go places where there are a lot of people she is so quiet and reserved.  people always tell me how well behaved she is...if only they could see her at home.  seriously, she's a nut.

tessa and noah were so sweet with izzy!  it was so fun to watch them love her and hold her.
we always have such a great time when we see cody's family.  i'm grateful that we live close enough that we can make quick trips to visit them.

toddlers...ugh.  mae has become an emotional wreck.  one minute she's a sweet happy girl, then she's crying, then she's yelling at me or hitting her sister, then she's having a complete breakdown.  i seriously don't know how to handle her some days.  the other day i had to put her in her room, put izzy in her crib and go sit in my closet to keep myself from having my own breakdown!  there is a reason that these little creatures are so incredibly cute.

since mae has given up her naps, we have instilled quiet time.  she picks a few books or a toy and goes and plays in her room for an hour or so.  last week, quiet time consisted of emptying out an entire pack of wipes and diapers...those are no longer left in her room.
a few days ago, i had just put izzy down and went to get mae, every single item of clothing she owned was on the floor, bed, and chair.  i closed the door and went downstairs, i was not ready to handle that.  when i went back up a few minutes later, mae had attempted to put things away, and this is what was left...she was so proud that she had cleaned up.  and was so excited that she found "new" clothes.

i'm so grateful for easter, and the time we have to reflect and celebrate the resurrection of our Savior.  it's such a miracle to know that i'll be able to be with my family forever.  even though these little girls give me a run for my money, and keep me on my toes, i can't imagine my life without them.

Izzy's Blessing

last sunday we had izzy's blessing at our church.  we were going to wait until we went home in may for kasee's wedding, but it just worked out that my parents were going to be in town.  it was a lot different than mae's blessing, but it was still such a special day.  we were so lucky to have bre, joseph and lucy come up for the day.  it was a great day.

these two girls are a hoot.  they love each other, and i'm so glad that they get along! it's fun to live close enough that they can get to know each other.  they got three bike rides one from cody, joseph and my dad.  and you could hear them giggling as they rode away...too cute.

mae has officially moved to a big girl bed, she seriously could barely fit into her crib. i was super nervous about how it was going to work out.  if she would even sleep in the bed, if she would be up all night, coming into our room all the time.  it has been pretty awesome.  i don't think she's realized that she can get out and come into our room, so when she wakes up she either cries or chats to herself.  maybe she's just lazy and wants me to come get her?  either way, it works for me.  we have found her in some very interesting positions.  and she's fallen out a few times.  somehow, two of the times she fell out she didn't even wake up!! i wish i could be that asleep.

cody has been so busy lately.  sometimes mae only sees him for a few minutes before she goes to bed a night.  so we decided to meet up for lunch.  it was so special for mae!  and even more special because she got ice cream at the end!  i'm glad cody works close enough that we can do this.  in DC we never would have been able to have lunch together.

we had lots of fun while gram and gramps were here.  izzy started to smile, and even coo a little bit.  proof that she can be happy when she's not being held!

this picture makes her look a lot chunkier than she is.  but i love it.

my parents drove out to texas in their suburban, and mae was in heaven with a tv in the car.  i thought one day i wanted to get a car that had a tv and dvd player in it, but now i'm not so sure!  every time we were in the car "watch a show mommy?"

gramps teaching mae how to golf.  maybe she'll take it up one day?

we ate at many delicious places, including in-n-out.  i'm still learning how to take care of two little people at the same time.  but here i was able to feed them both...progress!

torchy's tacos is always a must.  this little girl is a chip fiend.  probably the cutest one ever.

mae loves to decorate sugar cookies.  so she and gram made easter cookies.  she goes a little crazy with the decorations.
izzy is starting to be more alert, and actually interacts sometimes.  this is a face that i see quite often...cody's mom says that he made this face a lot.  actually, sometimes he still sticks his tongue out without realizing it.

i'm still trying to figure out how to handle stress and my anxiety with so much that i can't control.  i'm trying to figure out how to take it one day at a time.  some days that seems too hard, so i just take it a few hours at a time. one thing is for sure, i love these little munchkins.
